A chance of some very light snow will start the week on Long Island, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunday will be colder than normal, with the high in the mid-30s, more than 10 degrees below the average for this time of year, said Lauren Nash, meteorologist with the service's Upton bureau.

Lows on Sunday will be in the teens.

A 30 percent chance of a light dusting of snow comes to the area overnight Sunday into Monday, Nash said. If the snow arrives, it will only accumulate about a tenth of an inch, concentrated mostly between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. Monday, Nash said. Earlier in the week, forecasters had been projecting the possibility of up to 6 inches of snow before the system moved further south.

Monday's high is expected to be in the mid-30s, with the low Monday night in the lower 20s. The high Tuesday is expected to be around 40. The low on Tuesday will be around 30.

Wednesday will begin a slight warming trend, with the high that day in the low 40s. A chance of rain comes on Wednesday afternoon into late Wednesday night, Nash said, with the low in the mid- to upper 30s.

It becomes dry again on Thursday, with the expected high reaching to around 50. The low Thursday night is forecast for the lower 30s.

The high Friday is forecast in the upper 40s.
