Long Island forecast: Another day of above-normal temps

While certainly cooler than the 82 degrees that Easter Sunday brought, Monday’s temperatures were still coming in well above normal.
The temperature at Long Island MacArthur Airport was 70 degrees as of just before 3 p.m. — having earlier hit 74 — with overcast skies and northwest winds of 21 mph, gusting to 26 mph, according to the National Weather Service’s website.
The temperatures were well above the 58 degrees that’s normal for the day, according to the weather service. Partly sunny skies also were in the forecast, along with winds from the northwest of around 7 to 17 mph.
“Warm again today, but not as warm as Easter Sunday,” with its temperature that was “more typical of late July,” said Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist.
Given warm temperatures combining with dry fuels, low relative humidity and gusty winds in the afternoon, there’s also an enhanced threat of the spread of brush fires Monday, the weather service said.
After overnight lows mostly in the low 40s, Long Islanders should be prepared for a cooler Tuesday with highs forecast to reach the upper 50s to low 60s.
