It’s a cloudy Long Island Friday with a chance of showers, the National Weather Service said.
But News 12 Long Island meteorologist Matt Hammer is not expecting heavy rain for the end of the workweek.
“Just a few passing showers,” Hammer said.
Projected daily rainfall amounts range from one-tenth to one-quarter inch, the service’s Upton office said.
The best chance of showers across Nassau and Suffolk counties is into the early afternoon, with daily highs in the low to mid 70s, the service’s Upton office said.
Light winds from the south are about 6 mph, the service said.
Hammer said the weekend looks like a “50-50 split,” with a mix of sun and clouds on Saturday and “periods of rain, some heavy,” for Sunday.
Friday night offers lingering clouds with the chance of stray showers.
There’s a good chance for patchy fog overnight, he said.
Saturday is warm, with highs in the upper 70s, light south winds and partly sunny skies, Hammer said.
Rain on Sunday will continue into the nighttime hours, and there’s a chance for thunderstorms, too.
Highs are in the low 70s, with overnight lows in the mid 60s.
