Long Island forecast: Chance of rain overnight

After Monday morning’s showers, it’s looking like Long Island is getting a pass on a second batch of scattered showers in the afternoon, forecasters said.
However, stay tuned for a 30 to 40 percent chance of precipitation — with chances higher on the Twin Forks — overnight Monday into Tuesday, said Joe Pollina, National Weather Service meteorologist, based in Upton. Along with that could come some patchy fog and drizzle.
Highs of around 60 degrees are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, the weather service said, lower than the roughly 74 degrees considered normal for this time of year.
Unsettled conditions continue through midweek, bringing “cloudy skies, cool temperatures, with a chance of showers,” the weather service said, but no days that are total washouts.
Off-and-on rain is forecast for both Tuesday and Wednesday, while Thursday should be partly sunny, and Friday should be mostly sunny, forecasters said.
Temperatures through the week should be in the low to mid-60s, forecasters said.
News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman summed up the forecast as “more clouds than sunshine through Thursday.”
“Summer weather returns for the weekend,” he said, with temperatures climbing into the low 80s on Sunday.
