The start of Long Island’s workweek gets mostly sunny skies with temperatures pushing toward 70 degrees, the National Weather Service said.

But the warmer temperatures Monday come with breezy conditions, the service’s Upton office said.

West winds are from 7 to 17 mph, with gusts to 28 mph.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said after a cold start to May conditions will improve this week.

Temperatures for the first eight days of May on the average were 5 degrees below normal, Hoffman said.

“This week we’re at or above normal temperatures,” he said. “It will feel better this week.”

Some clouds do appear on Monday, Hoffman said, and winds shift slightly to the west southwest.

By nighttime, skies clear and winds subside to 5 to 10 mph. Overnight lows are in the high 30s to low 40s, Hoffman said.

Tuesday opens with partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies and there’s a chance for a late-day shower.

Daily highs are in the mid 60s.
