Thursday looks to be clear and sunny with gentle winds of about 8 mph from the northwest, the National Weather Service said.

The outlook for the rest of the week is similar, with daytime temperatures topping out at a high in the high 80s and the nighttime lows dropping to the 60s, the weather service said.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Matt Hammer predicted "a great day across Long Island today with plenty of sunshine and highs this afternoon in the lower 80s."

There was a chance of isolated thunderstorms inland Saturday that were not expected to reach Long Island, Bill Goodman, a meteorologist at the weather service office in Upton, said.

"The chance of thunderstorms for Long Island is pretty slim. Other than that, I see fair weather in the forecast through Monday. The next chance of thunderstorms could come Tuesday or Wednesday with a cold front moving in," Goodman said.

The high Thursday was expected to be about 81 and the temperature could drop to a low of 62 Thursday night, the weather service said. It could drop into the middle and upper 50s in some areas, such as the pine barrens, Hammer said.
