The first workweek in October starts off with sunny and mostly sunny skies on Long Island, and temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s, then warming up for midweek, forecasters say.

Monday should be sunny on Long Island with light winds and the high temperature topping 70 degrees, forecasters said.

Temperatures will be above normal for the week, News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said.

By Wednesday temperatures are expected to head up to the mid-70s, followed by low 80s for Thursday and Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Normal highs for this time of year are around 68 degrees.

It should remain sunny through Thursday, and Friday should be mostly sunny, the weather service said.

As for precipitation? You’ll have to wait a while for that, as there’s potential for showers Friday night, the weather service said, but the “best chance for showers will be Sunday into Monday,” according to Hoffman.
