Long Island forecast: Afternoon dry but cloudy, temps in 50s

Morning drizzle and light rain gave way Tuesday afternoon to cloudy skies, the National Weather Service said.

Daily highs across Nassau and Suffolk counties range from the low to mid 50s with north winds from 9 to 13 mph, the service’s Upton office said.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said after a stretch of rain and chilly weather on Monday conditions turn milder Tuesday afternoon.

“There’s still a chance for spot showers,” Hoffman said.

Hoffman said it stays mostly dry up until the afternoon hours on Wednesday.

Overnight Tuesday also is cloudy with winds shifting slightly to the northwest at 5 to 10 mph. Lows overnight are in the mid 40s.

Hoffman said Wednesday starts out as partly sunny and mild, with high temperatures in the upper 50s and winds from the south southwest at 5 to 10 mph.

“There’s a chance for a few late-day showers,” he said.
