Sunday night's chilly temperatures in the mid-50s will be ushering in a week far warmer than the cool weekend, the National Weather Service said.
Winds had calmed down Sunday night from about 25 mph to about 11 mph in parts of Long Island and it's clear.
Monday, it will be breezy but the sun returns and temperatures will bounce back to about 78 degrees, about average for this time of year, the weather service said.
Monday night will be partly cloudy with a low of 61 and the winds will finally die down.
Tuesday, which is also the summer solstice, brings a chance of thunderstorms and showers after 2 p.m. on a mostly cloudy day with a high in the mid-70s, the weather service said. The chance of rain continues into the night with thunderstorms possible between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. and a low of 61.
Wednesday also holds a risk of showers, as does Thursday morning before a partly sunny afternoon, forecasters said. Both days should be in the mid- to high 70s and the low 60s at night.
Then it should really feel like summer on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with highs in the lower 80s, according to the weather service. It should be sunny Friday and Sunday with Saturday holding a chance of showers most of the day.
