As a slow moving line of showers approached Long Island Thursday afternoon, chances for rain, moderate to heavy in some pockets, increase for western Nassau by the evening commute time, according to the National Weather Service. Weather and low ceilings Thursday created flight delays at LaGuardia, Kennedy and Long Island MacArthur airports, said the Federal Aviation Administration, which advised travelers to check with their airlines.

Rain was expected to last into Friday morning, then pick up again Friday afternoon and night, according to the weather service's Facebook page.

Fog is also expected to develop overnight Thursday, dissipating shortly after sunrise Friday, said David Stark, also a meteorologist in Upton.

Friday, too, brings the chance for mugginess and more showers, with the possibility of locally heavy rainfall, as well as highs in the upper 70s, Stark said.

The unsettled conditions are expected to give way to a sunny weekend, however, with lower humidity and temperatures in the upper 70s to near 80s, he said.
