It’s going to be a “pretty quiet” week, with dry, cold weather, the calm before a possible snowstorm next weekend, forecasters said.

There’s still a lot of uncertainty, but the next significant weather system won’t likely hit until next weekend, said Nelson Vaz, a National Weather Service meteorologist based in Upton. “It’s really kind of a quiet week weather-wise.”

Monday is expected to be mostly sunny, with a high near 36 degrees. Monday night will be mostly clear with a low around 19 degrees, according to the service.

More sun is in the forecast Tuesday through Thursday. A high near 37 is expected Tuesday, falling to around 25 degrees overnight.

Wednesday should see a high of 40, dropping to around 23 degrees at night.

Thursday is expected to reach a high of 33 degrees, dropping to 24 overnight.

There’s a 40-percent chance of rain or snow showers on Friday. The Island could see snow before 9 a.m., turning to rain, and clouds for the remainder of the day with a high near 41, according to the service.

The region is below average for snowfall this season, said Tim Morrin, a meteorologist with the weather service. Except for a November storm, Long Island and New York City were “relatively snowless in December and so far in January,” he said.

Meteorologists will be watching for a possible winter storm developing by the weekend, Morrin said.

There is a 40 percent chance of rain Saturday with a high near 38 degrees. There’s a 50 percent chance of rain or snow Saturday night into Sunday. Sunday is expected to be mostly cloudy and breezy, with a high near 34 degrees, according to the service.
