After muggy Fourth, Thursday caps recent spate of heat, forecasters say

Thursday should see the last of the recent hot, muggy weather Long Islanders have endured, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday's high is expected to be a humid 85 degrees with partly sunny skies, said Tim Morrin of the weather service's Upton station. No heat advisories will be applicable to the Island for a second day in a row, after several of them were issued earlier in the week.

Friday, however, will bring a cold front with showers and thunderstorms that sets up the Island "for a very comfortable weekend," Morrin said. Friday's high temperature is forecast to be 81 degrees, with a warm and humid morning.

Showers should begin in western Nassau County in the early afternoon and move east, with the East End getting the last of the rain between 8 and 10 p.m., Morrin said. 

After that, "We're going to be treated with a really good weekend," Morrin said, noting that it will be a return to seasonal temperatures between 78 and 81 degrees.

Saturday's high is predicted to be 78 degrees and Sunday's high should be 81, he said. Both days will feature "a nice blue sky."

"It'll feel much cooler," he said. "It'll be refreshing for a change."
