The expected cool-down didn't quite happen on Saturday, but the heat wave that has roasted Long Island in recent days should break on Sunday.

The National Weather Service said the high temperature Sunday to be a relatively cooler 81 degrees under partly sunny skies, with a north wind blowing 5 to 9 mph.

The high temperature recorded at Islip on Saturday was an uncomfortable 90 degrees. The normal high for the date is 82 degrees.

The weather service said that Sunday night will be mostly cloudy with a low temperature around 66 degrees.

The high temperatures for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are all expected to be 81 degrees.

No precipitation is in the forecast until Tuesday night into Wednesday where there is a 30% chance of showers from 2 p.m. to 8 a.m. There is also a chance of rain Wednesday after 2 p.m.

Thursday there is a 50% chance of showers and a 40% chance of showers Friday.
