A week of spring showers and average April temperatures are in the forecast for Long Island, the National Weather Service said.

Increasing clouds with a high in the mid-50s and northwest wind of around 10 mph are forecast for Monday, according to the weather service. Temperatures will drop to the low 40s at night with a west wind at around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

The week's wet forecast starts on Tuesday with a 30% chance of rain in the afternoon and partly sunny skies with a high in the mid-50s along with calm winds. Rain will continue into Wednesday with an 80% chance of precipitation on Tuesday evening. Estimated new precipitation amounts are between a half and three-quarters of an inch possible, the weather service said.

There is a 90% chance of precipitation on Wednesday mainly before 2 p.m. with a high near 54 degrees. Temperatures will drop about 10 degrees at night as rain continues before 8 p.m., then a chance of rain is forecast after 2 a.m.

"Temperatures through the week are pretty much near normal with the exception of Friday and Saturday, where we get to the upper 50s and at 60," Bill Goodman, National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Goodman said.

Temperatures remain steady on Thursday with a high in the mid-50s again and rain mainly before 8 a.m. The chance of showers increases again at night with a low around 46, according to the weather service.

Showers are forecast to round out the workweek with a 30% chance of showers on Friday. Partly sunny skies with a high near 60 are also in the forecast. At night, there is expected to be a 30% chance of showers with partly cloudy skies and a low around 44.

Rain and warmer temperatures continue on Saturday, but Sunday's forecast looks sunny and dry with a high near 55.
