Forecast: Chilly week ahead, with stormy conditions
Be prepared for a week of chilly temperatures and some days with rain, forecasters warn.
Temperatures will be “below normal for the bulk of the week” as rain is in the forecast on four days, said Faye Morrone, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton.
The typical high for this time of year in Islip is in the mid-50s, and the typical low is 38.
The thermometer will dip Sunday night to the low 30s on most of the Island and into the 20s in the pine barrens region.
Monday will see a high around 50, and rain is expected to start around 10 p.m., Morrone said.
Rain will last into Tuesday, which is expected to be the warmest day of the week, with temperatures in the mid- to-upper 50s. “The heaviest and steadiest” of the rain should taper off by noon, although precipitation could last through daylight hours, Morrone said.
Rain accumulation on Monday and Tuesday could reach 2 inches, forecasters said.
Wednesday, the only dry day this workweek, will be partly sunny with “chilly highs” in the low 40s, Morrone said.
Rain is possible again Thursday afternoon into Friday. Thursday will have highs in the low 40s, and Friday will be back in the mid-50s.
