Long Island weather: Some areas get much-needed dousing

Areas of Long Island got a much-needed dousing of rain Tuesday, with the chance of just a few scattered “spritzes” continuing through about midnight, the National Weather Service said.
According to preliminary figures from the National Weather Service, Farmingdale registered 1.53 inches of rain, with 0.53 at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma. Heavier precipitation stayed to the west and north of New York City, said Jay Engle, weather service meteorologist based in Upton.
Flights were being affected, with average arrival delays of 1 hour and 40 minutes at LaGuardia, 45 minutes at Kennedy, which also saw some departure delays, as reported by the Federal Aviation Administration on its website.
Still, localized minor coastal flooding can be expected Wednesday from 8 to 10 a.m. along some areas of Nassau’s and southwestern Suffolk’s South Shore bays, the weather service said.
Wednesday is bringing dry skies with “a good deal of sunshine,” as described by the weather service in a regional weather summary. Look for highs of about 60 degrees, which is slightly above normal, the weather service said.
News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said that dry, mild conditions start Wednesday and run through Saturday.
