Long Island weather: Clear and dry Wednesday for holiday travelers

As pre-Thanksgiving travelers take to the roads, rails and skies on Wednesday, the area’s weather forecast looks to be fairly accommodating.

Mostly clear, dry skies are on tap for the day, with breezy conditions and highs in the low 40s expected, the National Weather Service said.

Clouds start increasing in the evening hours, though, giving way to a chance for light rain around daybreak Thanksgiving Day, said Jay Engle, weather service meteorologist in Upton.

Those heading in to Manhattan on Thursday morning for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade can expect chilly temperatures, he said, in the upper 30s to low 40s. That and possibly some light, spotty rain, similar to what’s being forecast for throughout the day on Long Island, where highs around the upper 40s are forecast.

Black Friday shoppers — especially those heading to brick-and-mortar stores — can also expect a chance of light rain, the weather service said, with highs in the lower 50s.
