Long Island weather: Clouds prevail Tuesday, then clearing the rest of the week

Leaden skies prevailed Monday with forecasters calling for more clouds Tuesday before clear and sunny conditions as the week goes on.

"Tuesday will feature partly cloudy conditions in the morning becoming mostly cloudy in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures remain above seasonable levels in the lower 40s for most of the Tri-State area before a cold front passes through in the early evening," the weather service's regional summary said Monday. "High pressure builds into the region from the west Tuesday night and Wednesday will lead to mostly clear skies and seasonable temperatures. These conditions likely persist through the Friday."

Still, nightime lows are expected to dip into the 20s most nights, except for Monday night — when the temperature is expected to hover right around freezing, forecasters said.

A small craft advisory is in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday for ocean waters from Moriches Inlet to Montauk Point. A small craft advisory for coastal waters from Fire Island Inlet to Moriches is in effect until 10 p.m. Monday.

The weekend may bring a moderate chance of rain and maybe even snow, the weather service said.
