Cloudy skies, breezy winds and light rain are the order of the day for Long Island, the National Weather Service said Tuesday.

Periods of rain, much of it light, is forecast for most of the day, the service's Upton office said.

Rain is expected off and on through Tuesday and into Wednesday morning, then resume on Thursday.

Daily highs Tuesday will be in the low 60s with winds from the east at 6 to 16 mph.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman called for a stretch of "unsettled weather" through the daytime hours Thursday.

High pressure builds over the region to generate mostly dry conditions for the weekend, Hoffman said.
