Wednesday offers mostly cloudy skies across Long Island, with daily highs in the mid-60s, the National Weather Service said.

Winds are calm, around 5 mph, shifting to the east in the afternoon.

A warm southwesterly airflow comes in ahead of a passing cold front, which means mostly clear skies and sunshine into the weekend, the service’s Upton office said.

The only real threat of rain in the forecast is Thursday afternoon and evening, when the service calls for a 20 percent chance of showers.

“Mostly dry weather continues in the seven-day forecast,” News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said. “Any wet weather we see on Thursday will be light.”

Some drizzle and fog could develop overnight Wednesday and linger into Thursday morning, Hoffman said. Overnight lows are in the low to mid-50s.

Thursday is a mix of sun and clouds with a chance of spotty showers from early afternoon into the evening. Daily highs range from the mid-60s to low 70s, Hoffman said.

Hoffman said the weekend looks good for outdoor “fall fun-type things.”
