A Canadian high pressure system ushers in a cold, dry start to the workweek for Long Island.
The National Weather Service said the system builds through Tuesday night, keeping conditions mostly sunny and clear through the week, including Thanksgiving.
Monday calls for daily highs in the low 40s with a breezy northwest wind up to 16 mph.
News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said the chilly blast of air from north of the border is the coldest air mass for Long Island since March.
Early morning temperatures Monday were in the 30s, with wind chills in the 20s, Hoffman said.
Traffic on most major roadways was moving well during the morning commute, according to the state Department of Transportation website, informny.com.
The Long Island Rail Road also was reporting mostly good service at its site, mta.info/lirr.
Shortly after 7:30 a.m., the LIRR said it closed the Port Jefferson branch in both directions after a non-passenger train struck a vehicle that was not authorized to be on the tracks.
