Cool, mostly clear conditions greeted Long Island on Thursday.

The National Weather Service said temperatures in the upper 40s and low 50s would give way to mostly sunny skies and daily highs in the mid 60s across Nassau and Suffolk counties.

The service's Upton office said winds from the west will be light and variable, shifting southwest in the afternoon.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman calls for "beautiful weather" Thursday before a cold front passes midday Friday.

Spotty showers and colder air move in with the front, Hoffman said.
