Below average temperatures and some chilly November rain are in store for Long Island this coming week following recent record highs, according to the National Weather Service.

“For this week, the warmer temperatures are gone,” Joe Pollina, a weather service meteorologist, said Sunday afternoon.

Although Sunday brought cooler temperatures in the 50s that are typical of autumn, Saturday hit a record high of 72 degrees in Islip, topping the previous mark of 67 set in 2014, according to the weather service. That was the fifth record high this month following records on Nov. 5, 6, 7 and 11, according to the weather service.

The normal high in Islip at this time of year is 54 degrees and the normal low 38 degrees, Pollina said.

Monday is expected to be sunny with a high near 47. The evening low will dip to 29.

On Tuesday, the high is forecast to near 51 degrees with increasing clouds. At night, there is a 100% chance of rain in amounts of between three quarters and one inch, according to the weather service.

More rain is predicted for Wednesday, an otherwise mostly cloudy day with a high near 54.

The sun should be out for Thursday and Friday with highs in the mid to upper 40s and evening lows in lower 30s.
