LI weather: Cooler weather starts the week before heat returns Wednesday
Cooler and less muggy conditions continue for the start of the workweek, before the return of warmer and more humid air on Wednesday, forecasters say.
Both Monday and Tuesday were looking at high temperatures in the mid-70s or so, lower than the daily norm at Long Island MacArthur Airport, which is 80 degrees. Wednesday was predicted to see temperatures rise to the mid 80s.
Just around 11 a.m. Monday, the airport’s temperature had reached 71 degrees.
Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist, said he expects conditions to be “a little unsettled through Wednesday."
Monday brings slight chances for some light rain, as does Tuesday afternoon, before higher chances for precipitation Tuesday night into Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.
“With the air getting warmer Wednesday as forecast highs reach the low to mid-80s behind a warm front, thunderstorms will be possible as well,” the weather service said in its regional summary.
Thursday and Friday were expected to be mostly clear and sunny, according to the weather service.
"The weather looks great Thursday, Friday and into the weekend," Hoffman said.
