After a foggy, drizzly morning, Election Day sees steadier rain spreading across Long Island in the early afternoon, forecasters say.

As of shortly past noon, rain, moving from west to east, had reached the Upton office of the National Weather Service, said meteorologist Faye Morrone.

Some thunderstorms are expected, and any that develop could bring brief bouts of heavy rain and gusty winds, the weather service said.

The rain should run its course by early Tuesday evening, possibly by 8 p.m. for much of the Island, Morrone said.

Skies clear for Wednesday and Thursday, both bringing sunshine with highs around 60 and the mid-50s, respectively.

Then it’s back to rain on Friday, also warming up to the mid 50s.

The weekend is expected to be “colder and dry,” says Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist.

Temperatures take a dip starting Saturday, with highs in the low 50s. Sunday, Veterans Day, was looking to warm up only the mid- 40s or so.
