Dry conditions and low relative humidity levels mean an elevated risk for brush fires on Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said the elevated risk means residents should “be careful with open flames.”

Sunshine and breezy winds are in store for Long Island on Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

Daily highs in the low 60s are expected across Nassau and Suffolk counties with winds diminishing in the afternoon but gusts to 20 mph still possible, the service’s Upton office said.

Hoffman said conditions stay dry at least for the next couple of days.

“Some showers coming on Friday,” Hoffman said, “but temperatures remain above normal into the weekend.”
