Saturday's forecast across Long Island calls for below-average temperatures and increasing clouds before a chance of a coating of snow overnight, the National Weather Service said.

John Murray, an NWS meteorologist based in Upton, said a "fast moving low pressure area" would move across the region late Saturday night and bring snow of less than an inch.

"Even a little bit of snow can make for slippery conditions," he said.

Saturday's high temperature is expected to be just below the freezing mark and then drop into the 20s overnight, Murray said.

Long Islanders will need to keep bundled up Sunday as temperature climb only a few degrees into the low or mid 30s, Murray said. No precipitation is expected on Sunday and clouds are expected to diminish during the day. That will drop the low temperatures into the teens on Sunday night into Monday.

By Tuesday, though, the region will see a "quite a bit of a rebound in temperatures," with highs climbing into the 40s, Murray said.
