Holiday shoppers should get a break from the rain on a gray Saturday with temperatures slightly warmer than usual.

“It should just remain mainly cloudy throughout the day,” said Jay Engle, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service at Upton.

Temperatures should hit the upper 40s or low 50s at a time of year when the lower to mid-40s are the norm, Engle said.

“It’s going to be seasonably mild, then tomorrow, seasonably cool,” Engle said.

The light morning rain that greeted early risers petered out as the sun came up Saturday but is expected to return in the early hours of Sunday.

“Just after midnight we’re going to get another round of rain,” he said. That moderate rain should continue through the day and could mix with sleet by Sunday night as the temperature drops into the 30s.

The rest of the week is expected to begin dry and seasonably cold. Clouds and rain are expected to return by Thursday and Friday, he said.
