Clouds, rain forecast for Wednesday evening through Thursday
With clouds increasing and spreading from west to east, Long Islanders had some light rain for much of the Wednesday evening commute, forecasters say.
Conditions were expected to be showery, with areas of fog, overnight and through the day Thursday, said Brian Ciemnecki, National Weather Service meteorologist based in Upton.
The chance for rain increases from Wednesday night and into Thursday morning, climbing as high as 60 percent.
News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said the storm system will bring in rain and warmer weather Thursday, with highs in the 50s.
Chance of daytime precipitation Thursday is 80 percent, with daily highs in the low 50s.
Between Wednesday afternoon and Friday night, when the storm system moves off Long Island, Hoffman expects as much as 1 to 2 inches of rain, with "some higher amounts possible in thunderstorms."
Daytime highs in the 50s are likely for Thursday, then dropping to the upper 40s for Friday.
For the weekend, expect slightly colder than normal daytime temperatures, in the low to mid 40s for both Saturday and Sunday.
