Long Island weather: A wet and warmer Tuesday

Tuesday will bring some rain to Long Island, the potential for minor coastal flooding, and temperatures warming up to the high 50s, forecasters say.
“Warmer and wet” is how Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist, put it.
The morning hours bring a slight chance for rain, with precipitation more likely for the afternoon, the National Weather Service said in its forecast late Monday afternoon.
Tuesday was expected to warm up to around 59 degrees, with breezy conditions that continue overnight when winds could gust as high as 31 mph.
“Heavier and steadier rain will move in Tuesday evening and continue into the overnight hours before rain tapers off from west to east Wednesday morning,” the weather service said in its regional summary. Indeed, precipitation was almost a sure thing, with a 90 percent chance for overnight into Wednesday, the weather service said.
Highs in the low 50s were expected Wednesday, but a weather pattern shift means colder temperatures for the following days, with highs in the 40s and overnight lows mostly in the upper 20s.
