Following a Friday that brought heavy morning rain in some areas, with the potential for overnight showers still on the East End, the next-to-the-last weekend of August shows a mostly sunny Saturday, with highs in the low 80s, forecasters say.

Beach-goers should note that there's a moderate chance for rip currents at ocean beaches, the National Weather Service said.

Then, as clouds increase later in the day Saturday, there's a slight chance again for occasional overnight showers, especially for the East End, said Carlie Buccola, weather service meteorologist based in Upton.

"The weekend overall should not be too bad," News 12 Long Island meteorologist Matt Hammer said.

Sunday's forecast is for mostly cloudy skies and a slight chance of showers.

Daytime highs are expected to be in the low to upper 80s both days, with nighttime lows in the low 70s.

Hammer said sunshine and clear skies return for Monday.
