Patchy fog could be in the picture for overnight into early Wednesday, with a slight chance of isolated showers in some areas, the National Weather Service said.

Temperatures Wednesday are expected to hit the mid-80s, said Faye Barthold, weather service meteorologist based in Upton, with continuing humid conditions.

Forecasters have their eyes on a more widespread rainfall event for Thursday afternoon into Friday, which could bring western Nassau a possible half inch, tapering down to less than a quarter of an inch for the East End.

Still, as of Tuesday afternoon's forecast, the brunt of the rainfall from the slow moving system was expected to fall on New York City, northeast New Jersey and the lower Hudson Valley, the weather service said.
