Long Island weather: Warm and sunny but low humidity and cooler until mid-week
After scorching heat this weekend, Long Islanders will get a small reprieve for the start of the work week, according to the National Weather Service.
Sunday night’s low was expected to drop to 69 degrees after temperatures reached into the 90s during the day, the weather service in Upton said.
Monday and Tuesday will be sunny or mostly sunny, with a high near 83 and 84, respectively, the weather service said. That’s closer to the normal high of around 82 degrees in Islip this time of year.
Temperatures were expected to rise again Wednesday, to 87 degrees. Showers and thunderstorms are possible Wednesday night through Thursday, when the high temperature will be near 86.
Remnants of what was Hurricane Barry will go to the northwest and bring "tropical-like air,” said Jay Engle, a weather service meteorologist.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be hot and dry, with highs around 90 degrees, and mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies.
