A stationary front south of Long Island generates cooler than normal conditions, clouds and a chance of rain Monday, Aug. 1, 2016, the National Weather Service said. Credit: News 12

A chance of showers and thunderstorms persists for overnight Monday into Tuesday, with higher likelihood – 40 percent - for the western areas of Long Island, lessening as you move east, according to the National Weather Service.

Rainfall accompanying thunderstorms could be heavy, the service said.

A slight chance of showers continues for Tuesday, but that’s for mostly before noon, the service said. The rest of the day could be cloudy, with highs in the low 80s.

Wednesday is looking to be mostly sunny, with highs of around 80.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said the normal average high temperature for this time of year is around 82 degrees.
