Long Island weather: Temps in the 50s this week with occasional rain
Monday was the first of three days this week in which the high will be in the 50s, the National Weather Service said, although rain will be making an occasional appearance that could mar the mild conditions.
"There is a chance of showers moving in tonight ahead of an approaching frontal system. Low temperatures tonight will range from the middle 40s in New York City down to the upper 30s in the
interior," the weather service said in its regional summary of what to expect Monday night. "Rain will clear by Tuesday morning before likely returning in the afternoon, with highs ranging from the upper 50s in New York City down to around 50 in southeastern Connecticut and the Twin Forks of Long Island."
There will be rain Tuesday night but it will clear by Wednesday morning in time for clear, breezy conditions that will extend to Thursday with highs in the upper 40s, still above average for this time of year, forecasters said.
Lows for the week will still be generally in the 30s, the weather service said.
Friday there is a chance of afternoon rain and temperatures are predicted to cool, allowing for the possibility of snow Friday night.
