Thursday's mostly sunny, but a bit cooler on Long Island

Another clear, mostly sunny day is in store for Long Island.

The National Weather Service's Upton office calls for daily highs Thursday just under 60 degrees, with a northeast wind 6 to 13 mph.

That's slightly cooler than the past four days, each of which recorded daily highs in the 60s or higher.

The wind shifts to the south in the afternoon, and there's a slight chance of overnight showers, the service said. Overnight lows are in the mid to upper 40s.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said early morning clouds and sun give way to mostly sunny skies Thursday, agreeing it won't be as warm as recent days.

On Wednesday, Long Island MacArthur Airport reached 70 degrees, the first day at that temperature or higher since Oct. 29, when it was 73 degrees, according to the Regional Climate Center at Cornell University.

The chance of showers toward Friday morning, after 4 a.m., increases as do cloudy skies; scattered showers and winds between 10 and 15 mph could be in place for the Friday morning commute, the service said.

Hoffman said the next warm day could be Saturday, when it again could reach 70 or slightly higher.
