Long Island weather: Wind advisory in effect until early Monday

Wind gusts are whipping across Long Island and New York City, possibly knocking out power for some, weather officials said Sunday.
A wind advisory will be in effect through Monday at 1 a.m., the National Weather Service said.
During that time, the area is expected to have west and northwest winds between 15 and 25 mph, the weather service said. Wind gusts may be as high as 50 mph.
“We anticipate winds weakening overnight, but there still may be gusts up to 35 mph at times, especially near the coast,” National Weather Service meteorologist David Stark said in an email.
Along with potential power outages, weather officials say, the blustery winds could also mean loose items may blow around and tree limbs might fall.
After the anticipated end of the wind advisory Monday, the remainder of the day will be gusty, but less forceful than they were on Sunday, officials said. Monday should see sustained winds of about 15 to 20 mph, but wind gusts of roughly 35 mph.
“Winds on Monday will still be gusty, but should remain below advisory levels,” Stark said.
