Rain and fog are in the forecast for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Densely overcast skies, pea-soup fog and a lot of rain showers are in store for Long Island before mostly sunny skies are expected to return on Sunday, forecasters said.

Daytime temperatures will be in the 70s, nighttime temps in the 60s.

But rain showers, maybe even a few thunderstorms, will be the norm.

The weather service issued a dense fog advisory for all Long Island waters — on both the North and South shores — until at least 11 a.m. Thursday, noting: "Conditions will be hazardous to small craft. Low visibility will make navigation difficult."

But that fog won’t be limited to offshore areas. The weather service warned of patchy fog in areas across Long Island Thursday morning.

The service also said the fog could return Thursday evening.

Brief thunderstorms are also possible Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Rain is likely each of those days.

The weather service said Long Island can expect sun on Sunday, with sunny or mostly sunny skies likely Monday and Tuesday, as well.
