Friday on Long Island will be sunny with a daytime high of 69 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service forecast calls for a sunny and warm weekend with daytime temperatures in the mid-70s, dropping to the low 60s at night.

Friday’s cooler temperatures are brought on by a mass of cool air out of the northwest that weather service meteorologist Dominic Ramunni called "the coolest air mass we've seen since Memorial Day."

"It’ll be a nice way to start the month off," said Ramunni, who is based in Upton.

Next week, though, could start rainy, with a chance of showers Sunday night and rain possible Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to hold in the low 70s during the day to low 60s at night.
