Except for early Sunday, the sun is not expected to make much of an appearance over Long Island this weekend.

The National Weather Service said Friday evening that it will be mostly cloudy Saturday with a 50% chance of rain, mainly after 9 a.m. The high temperature should be about 55 degrees with an east wind of 3 mph to 7 mph.

Saturday night there is a 30% chance of showers, mostly before 9 p.m., and then clouds are expected to give way to mostly clear skies. The low temperature should be about 44 degrees.

But Sunday, Mother’s Day, the wet precipitation could return to Long Island as the weather service said there is a 30% chance of rain after 2 p.m. The high temperature is expected to be 62 degrees.

There is a 40% chance of rain on Monday before mostly sunny skies are expected for Tuesday and Wednesday. High temperatures on the first three days of the workweek are expected in the mid 60s.

It could get damp again at the end of workweek. The weather service says there a 30% chance of showers Thursday and a 40% chance Friday.
