Long Island weather: Flood advisory for western Suffolk canceled

A flood advisory has been lifted for eastern Nassau and western Suffolk counties, the National Weather Service said.

The advisory, which was to be in effect through 5 p.m., was issued as “radar indicated heavy rain that will cause urban and small stream flooding in the advisory area,” the weather service said. “Up to one inch of rain has already fallen.”

There’s a 30 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms, most likely for late afternoon, the weather service says. Chances are just 20 percent for eastern Long Island.

Otherwise, the workweek ends with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid-80s for Friday, forecasters say.

“We’re looking at a mix of sunshine and clouds, and it will be a bit humid,” for Friday, said Matt Hammer, News 12 Long Island meteorologist.

Expect “light winds through Saturday, and mainly fair weather,” the National Weather Service said.

The overnight Friday hours bring partly cloudy skies with highs of around 70 degrees, with some areas possibly seeing patchy fog Saturday morning, the weather service said.

Saturday is expected to “be humid with temperatures a touch more seasonable — near 82,” with 80 the norm, Hammer said.

Sunday brings a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms, the weather service said, rising to 60 percent for the overnight hours.
