More mild temperatures are expected Saturday, but rain is set to move over Long Island for the latter half of the weekend.

Temperatures are projected to be in the mid-50s with sunny skies Saturday across most of the Island, with slight winds between 8 to 11 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Overnight temperatures into Sunday are forecast to dip into the high 30s before showers are likely to move in Sunday afternoon, along with winds gusting up to 31 mph.

The winds are created by the difference in air pressure between the high-pressure system southwest of the New York area, near the Tennessee Valley, and the opposite weather pattern, a low-pressure system just south of Nova Scotia.

Temperatures during the day Sunday are set to remain in the upper 50s and drop into the 40s Sunday night. Most of Long Island is forecast to receive up to a half inch of rain through the night.

More mild weather is on the way Monday, with sunny skies and highs in the 50s, before dipping back near freezing Monday night.

Tuesday looks to be mostly sunny with a high near 50.

Another frontal system may dampen Wednesday, with a 50% chance of showers.
