After the Mets opened their season at Citi Field in Queens under a beautiful blue sky Friday, the weather Saturday might be more suited to an indoor sport, especially late in the day.
The National Weather Service said Friday evening that Long Island should expect mostly cloudy skies Saturday with a slight chance of showers between 2 and 5 p.m. and then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. The chance of precipitation will be 30%. A south wind should blow at 13 to 18 mph.
The high temperature Saturday is expected to reach about 61 degrees, which would be two degrees warmer than the average high for the date in Islip.
Saturday night, showers and thunderstorms are likely when the chance of precipitation will rise to 70%. The low temperature is expected to be around 42 degrees
Mostly sunny skies will return Sunday, which is Easter for most Christians, although the thermometer will only reach about 52 degrees, the weather service said.
Monday has a 30% chance of rain after 2 p.m., and Tuesday has a 40% chance of rain before 2 p.m.
Sunny to partly sunny skies are expected for the rest of the workweek.
Workweek high temperatures will range from about 52 degrees on Monday to 62 degrees on Friday, according to the weather service.
