Long Island weather: Rainy and cool this weekend
This weekend will be rainy, cloudy and cool, but sunny skies should return by early next week, according to the National Weather Service.
Saturday is expected to be rainy with a 90% chance of preciptiation dropping as much as a half inch during the day and rain likely continuing after midnight. Highs are expected in the low 50s on a windy day with northeasterly wind gusts as high as 33 mph in Mineola and 39 mph in Montauk.
Sunday may also be a wet one with a chance of precipitation at 50%, but the day should otherwise be cloudy and windy, with highs in the low 50s.
In all, up to 2 inches of rain could fall on Long Island this weekend, the weather service said.
The clouds will continue Monday, which is again expected to be breezy. Highs in the upper 50s are predicted.
But then on Tuesday, sunny skies and highs in the low 60s are forecast for the middle of the island with slightly cooler temperatures on the eastern end.
The sunny days should persist through at least Thursday though nights are expected to be partly cloudy. Highs are expected to be in the mid-60s Wednesday and in the upper 60s on Thursday, the weather service said.
