Long Island forecast: Sunny and warm weekend
The calendar says it's still spring but the weather for the weekend looks to be positively summerlike with clear skies and warm temperatures.
The National Weather Service said Friday evening that on Saturday it will be sunny with a high temperature near 88 degrees. A southwest wind of 5 to 10 mph should pick up to 12 to 17 mph in the afternoon.
Saturday night is expected to be mostly clear with a low around 69.
Along with the beautiful weather Saturday, there will, however, be some dangerous conditions along beaches. A high rip current risk is posted for the Island's South Shore through the evening. The weather service says in high risk conditions: "Life-threatening rip currents are likely for all people entering the surf zone. Anyone visiting the beaches should stay out of the surf."
It will also be sunny Sunday, but with the high temperature just a touch warmer at about 90 degrees, the weather service said.
The start of the workweek Monday should be mostly sunny with a high near 85, but both Tuesday and Wednesday have 30% chances of showers and thunderstorms with high temperatures in the mid 80s.
But mostly sunny skies will return Thursday and Friday when the high temperatures will be about 80 degrees, the weather service predicts.
