Long Island weather: A freeze is expected in some places overnight
Temperatures were to dip below freezing overnight in parts of Long Island, with a freeze warning in effect for parts of Suffolk County on Friday night into Saturday morning, the National Weather Service reports.
The freeze warning will be in effect from 10 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday in southwest, southeast and northeast Suffolk, the weather service reported. Temperatures as low as 28 degrees were expected in some places.
According to the weather service, the freeze conditions will "kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing."
Long Island temperatures on Saturday are expected to hit a high of 53 degrees, then head down to 35 degrees by nighttime, the weather service reports.
Then on Sunday, temperatures will rise to the upper 50s, heralding a slight warm-up. Highs will be in the low 60s Monday through Thursday, which is Veterans Day.
At night, temperatures during this period are expected to be in the 40s.
Partly to mostly sunny skies also are predicted next week through at least Thursday.
