Long Islanders won't be able to watch the Preakness Stakes on Saturday — the classic horse race that was supposed to be run in Baltimore was postponed because of the coronavirus outbreak — but at least they should be able to enjoy pleasant weather here.
For Friday night, the National Weather Service predicted a chance of showers and thunderstorms, but for Saturday the service forecast mostly sunny skies with a high near 73 degrees. A north wind Saturday should blow 6 to 10 mph.
Saturday night, it is expected to be partly cloudy with a low around 51.
"Saturday should remain dry as the cold front pushes south. Temperatures will be cooler than Friday overall reaching the mid 70s by the afternoon, but still quite warm. Overnight minimums will be in the upper 40s and lower 50s prior to sunrise Sunday setting up another mostly dry day," the weather service said in its regional summary Friday afternoon.
Sunday should be partly sunny on Long Island, with a high near 63 degrees, before a 40 percent of showers on Sunday night.
Monday, showers are likely, the weather service said. The high temperature is expected to be near 62 and the chance of precipitation is 60%.
The chance of rain is 60% Tuesday and then is listed at 30% every day through Friday.
