Long Island weather: Sunny, warm weekend ahead
Sunny skies are the story on Long Island for the weekend and continuing for the first day of the new workweek.
The National Weather Service said Friday evening that Saturday will be sunny with a high temperature near 79 degrees, which would be 5 degrees warmer than the average high for the date in Islip.
The weather service warns that despite the warm air temperatures Saturday and the next few days, water temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean and other bodies of water will still only be in the upper 50s to low 60s.
"This will present a cold water safety immersion hazard for anyone on small boats, canoes or kayaks," the service said.
Saturday's forecast also calls for a light and variable wind that will eventually blow out of the southwest at 6 to 11 mph in the afternoon.
Saturday night will be mostly clear with a low of around 53 degrees, the weather service said.
Sunday should be another sunny day with a high temperature near 75 degrees, which is the same forecast for Monday.
It is only Tuesday when the possibility of rain is mentioned. There is a 30% chance of showers after 2 p.m. Tuesday and a 50% chance of showers Tuesday night, according to the weather service.
