Partly sunny skies are forecast to be over Long Island on Saturday, with highs hovering in the high 70s and a 30% chance of showers, according to the National Weather Service.
Come Sunday, the odds of rain will have increased to 60%, according to the weather service, as high temperatures ease back to the low 70s. The chance of rain will persist for most of the day and night, the weather service said.
Thunderstorms are possible, too, on Sunday as another, apparently stronger wave of low pressure draws near. The weather service said the Storm Prediction Center "has the area highlighted in a general thunder outlook, but a marginal risk just to the southwest."
On Monday and Tuesday, temperatures are expected to climb into the 80s.
There also could be thunder Monday morning, when the odds of rain are 30% before 2 p.m. After that, the sun should appear.
Abundant sunshine is forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, thanks to a cloud-clearing high pressure system that sweeps in from the north, the weather service said.
Those clear skies will likely cloud over by Thursday afternoon, when rain becomes possible, as that high pressure sails offshore.
It will replaced by another low pressure system that could bring storms to the New York metro area Friday, the experts added.
