Friday afternoon was delivering some scattered showers, expected to continue through the nighttime hours, forecasters said.

Light drizzle and mist were being recorded at Long Island MacArthur Airport at around 3:45 p.m., according to the National Weather Service’s website.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said he expected spotty showers in the afternoon, but thunderstorms were possible.

There is rip current advisory in effect through the evening for beaches in southeastern Suffolk County, the weather service said.

Flight arrivals into Kennedy Airport were being delayed an average of two hours, and LaGuardia was reporting that arrivals and departures were being affected, according to the Federal Aviation Administration’s website.

Saturday brings a chance of showers — about 30 percent, with areas of morning fog, the weather service said. The overnight hours also could bring showers, with a slight chance of a thunderstorm. Highs are expected in the mid- to upper 70s.

Sunday, Father’s Day, has a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms, with the potential for dry but cloudy conditions later in the afternoon, the weather service said. Highs of around 80 degrees are expected.
